..
The song begins with some mid-tempo rhythmic piano chords - Emajor and G#minor, for those who are interested – with a synthesized motif. (It could be guitar, but I’m not sure. My knowledge of electric guitars is not wide.)
Such a simple opening, and yet so effective. In fact, the whole song is very simple, so it’s a suitable opening XD It’s quite pleasant to listen to a sincere simple song after hearing somewhat mass-produced music (such as Hello!Project…omg. or even I’ve sound –> KOTOKO. too many effects!!!) with special filters over the voices. I can’t say that I like Rie Fu’s voice that much but it’s quite pleasant and at least I feel that she’s singing it from her heart.
A short introduction only; the voice enters.
yoru ni utaeba yami ni nomarete
asa no hikari ga sore o terasu
todokanai sou ja nai tobira wa mou hirakareteru
If I sing at night, I’m swallowed up in darkness
Morning light illuminates that
It’s not that it won’t reach; the door is already opened
This verse is really quite low, and Rie’s tone is somewhat dark. It doesn’t really appeal to me, but the first line, interestingly, is “if i sing at night, i’m swallowed up in DARKNESS”. The next line is a reference to “morning light” as the tune changes and becomes higher and lighter for a few notes - in a way, “illuminated”. I like the melody of the next line. It’s quite effective, I think, and she sounds good when she sings it.
(i’m having problems with reviewing this song. I think it’s too simple. It’s nice, but it’s not interesting enough to review. But…I will keep going! YES.)
mitasarereba fuan ni natte
naite ireba sore mo shiawase da
soko kara mo mou ichido tachiagaru tanoshimi ga aru
If I’m fulfilled, I get worried
If I’m crying, that too is happiness
Once more I’m standing, full of anticipation, even from there
The same melody is still effective even though it’s repeated, sung in exactly the same way. I wonder what she’s singing about, though. The lyrics don’t really make sense to me.
I have a feeling that it’s her vibrato that i don’t like. Also, her tone in the lower parts is too…low-pitched for me. I don’t know.
aa fumikomu dake omoikkiri
suikomu dake kono shousoukan o
anata ga ima koko ni iru riyuu wa
kono amaoto ga shitteru
Oh, simply coming to grips with it, with all my strength
Simply breathing in these uneasy feelings
The sound of the rain knows
the reason you’re here now
I find the chorus of this song SO CATCHY. I heard this song once while some friends of mine were watching D.Gray-Man and I was half asleep and not really interested in the anime, but when the ending song came on I was just like…omg…wow. It stayed in my head for several weeks until finally I had to download it and play it on repeat.
Although I don’t like Rie Fu’s voice that much, the fact that she switches from chest to head voice quite often interests me, because I know that she actually can sing that high in her chest voice, but chooses not to. That means that she’s chosen to sing in head voice for musical reasons. I quite like her head voice actually, and I do feel that it fits better than if she tried to belt it.
The string backing is really pretty and fits so well with this section! The guitar bit is cool too even though there’s only two chords. It doesn’t matter in this song, I think – the lack of complex harmonies.
amatte ireba kakeru mono ga aru
soba ni areba mienaku naru
kidzukanai sou ja nai itai hodo wakatteru
If there’s too much, something is missing
If it gets closer, I can’t see it
It’s not that I don’t realize it; I know how much it hurts
I feel that singing this verse only once was a wise choice.
Also, I quite like the lyrics in this section. They seem quite meaningful.
aa mune o hatte omoikkiri
suikomu dake kono shunkan o
anata ga ima koko ni iru riyuu wa
kono yuuzora ga shitteru
Oh, I’m so proud, with all my heart
Simply breathing in this moment
This evening sky knows
the reason you’re here now
naimono nedari watashi ni wa naimono o
anata ga motteiru hazu
Asking for the moon – to me, that ‘moon’ should
belong to you
This bridge is quite good too. Minimal backing, leading up to full backing once more for a finale.
aa fumikomu dake omoikkiri
suikomu dake kono shousoukan o
watashi ga ima koko ni iru riyuu o
kore kara mo sagashiteru
Oh, simply coming to grips with it, with all my strength
Simply breathing in these uneasy feelings
I’m searching for it even after this–
the reason I’m here now
Although I said all that stuff about this song being nice because it was simple, I think it’s a little too repetitive. The melody is the strongest part.
The backing is good, though. Adds to atmosphere. Strings and guitar suit this song. The problem is that I don’t like her voice that much.
I PROMISE I WILL TRY TO DO A BETTER JOB NEXT TIME. ALSO,

It’s good to see you still have time to write reviews despite having your other work (which I hope isn’t getting neglected in the meantime).
thanx for the review. I’ve nvr thought anyone would review a song so complex. I can nvr do it. anyway i love your review on this song. you made me understand it even bttr. Thanx and oh the review was excellent.
“I think it’s too simple. It’s nice, but it’s not interesting enough to review.”
So true
And I also agree the chorus part is quite well done.
Nice review.
I think what I liked about this song is its simplicity – it sounds so heartfelt and honest.
I also liked that Rie fu has a strong alto range – since way too many J-Pop singers have high voices.
Hi. This is the first time i saw reviews on songs. Quite an interesting idea. Good job.

“I wonder what she’s singing about, though. The lyrics don’t really make sense to me.”
Maybe with this translation, it would make sense?
“If I’m satisfied, I’ll become uneasy
If I cry, then that’s also happiness
I’ll have, once more,
The pleasure of standing up again”
I know little about Japanese though, found the translation on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fPkdkL828c
By the way, nice review ^^
