Has anyone been watching Minami-ke ~okawari~ lately?
I loved the first season greatly. I liked Chiaki. I ship Fujioka/Kana. I liked the beginning of the op. I liked the whole anime’s approach and animation and vague plot and characters and humour.
Thus I was sad when it ended, and delighted to hear that there was a second season.
(Yeah, I know I’m a bit late in complaining about okawari when it came out ages ago, but I’ve been busy.)
THERE ARE MANY ISSUES i HAVE WITH OKAWARI.
Some of these are timing and humour, which i somehow feel have gotten worse. I do not know.
However, the biggest problem i have with it is the character design. compare…

CHIAKI IS BLONDE.
I mean, what the hell???? I liked her original hair colour so much. And like, she just looks so retarded now. I find it very awful… very shocking.
Haruka also looks somehow weird.
Even Kana, who I think has best retained her appearance from the first season, has slightly skewed features.
Yes. I have issues with their eyes.
and Fujioka is blonde also. I have issues with that.
I don’t know. I’m not sure if it’s only me who feels this way, but it’s depressing me.
I liked minami-ke. the question is… will okawari be able to redeem itself enough to overcome the fact that CHIAKI IS BLONDE??
Only time will tell.
(I promise I’ll write a review soon!! )
omg you said something visual and [b] did not post a pic[/b]. :S
Indeed, though I don’t ever remember a pic.
And fail BBCode. 😛
there now are pictures.
do not be deceived by chiaki’s vaguely normal seeming appearance. in animation, she looks a lot worse.
Eh, I got an account.
And blog, too. What am i thinking?!
Unfortunately hair color does matter. I myself have a preference to blondes in anime, so I am not on your side for this one ; P
Long time no see, just going through bookmarks and noticed you blogged on an anime i saw recently. It was a good one, I think the real reason for the hair color change was an increase in budget due to the popularity of the first season. Other then that I don’t know.
cheers
LOL never knew u had a site…
Thoughts post-Minami-ke/Minami-ke Okawari:
– Minami-ke > Okawari. But they’re both damn good. Enough for at least an 8.5/10 (on my scaling system).
– Minami-ke simply was the best comedy series in 2007. Period. You HAVE to agree with me on that 😉 Okawari? Boy, Kyouran Kazoku Nikki is a pretty tough contender…
– Art design changes -> don’t get it, don’t like it. Doesn’t really matter in the end. At least they retained the already high-std. BGM, VAs, (slightly toned-down) plot breakdown…literally everything else. THAT’s what matters.
Now where’s my review…oh yeah. My blog. Coming soon – whenever I feel like it.
I’m SO glad to see someone else found the change between the seasons disappointing.
Truth be told, the change of colors surprised me, but it’s not bothering me that much, even if the blond hair color is shocking… *an increase of budget does not make it necessary to change people into blond! and a grade schooler at that! >_<*
What bothers me most is the change in handling and showing the situations… A similar scene/joke that looks very plain actually turned out very funny in the 1st season, and now it’s … just plain .. O___o did they change director or something?
The only thing remaining funny are the scene where the situation in itself is laughable, like the hot-spring accident, but all the little jokes, remarks, etc… are now flat! Even Hosaka-sempai doesn’t make me laugh anymore! O____o;; And where the heck did “sensei & ninomiya-kun” go? ^-^;
