There’s not much to say about myself. I enjoy writing reviews, watching anime and singing. I accept that songhunter is a strange name, and consequently I use it only rarely.
Lately I seem to have been listening to more jPop than pure anime. Actually I seem to be watching less anime. I blame studying.
The cruelty of our education system is strong. Yes.
Then again, I am quite lazy.

Recommended artists, who are loved by me:
- Sakamoto Maaya; a well-known singer of anime songs. She has a clean clear voice and somehow sounds good always. Favourite songs of hers include: Tell me what the rain knows, Hemisphere, Tune the Rainbow, Kiseki no Umi, Yubiwa, and Saigo no Kajitsu. From her albums (ie not from anime): 30minutes night flight, Chibikko Folk and Fad. (I like a lot more of her songs though…it’s hard to choose.) In my opinion, best album: Shounen Alice. If you have Yuunagi Loop, PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE HER HARSHLY. Most of her songs are a lot better than that!
- ayaka; famous for her single Mikazuki. This song is beautiful but I like a lot more of her songs now. She’s so much more than just a ballad singer. Favourite songs: WINDING ROAD (with Kobukuro), Jewelry Day, Peace Loving People, For Today and Kimi no Kissu de. From her album, First Message: Kimi no Power to Otona no Furi, Eien no Monogatari, and Sha la la. Also, she is an AMAZING live singer.
- Tainaka Sachi; known for her Fate/Stay Night songs, disillusion and Kirameku Namida wa Hoshi ni (and Kimi to no Ashita). She’s also an amazing singer and has the highest range I’ve heard in a jpop singer. Lately her songs have become…strangely uninteresting, which is sad, because she has a really beautiful voice and a lot of skill. Favourite songs: Kirameku Namida wa Hoshi ni, Aitai yo, Ichiban Boshi, and Saikou no Kataomoi. I found her last single (Visit of Love) really disappointing. That being said, she’s still worth listening to, and I can only hope she produces some better stuff soon. Something other than boring pop or yet another ballad would be nice. Not that she’s not good at ballads, they’re just getting a bit tiring. I wish for a ROCKSONG! I think she would be really good at it.
- KOKIA; has a unique style and voice. I cannot say that I like her THAT much, but I like her songs. She has a pretty voice though sometimes it’s just a bit too weird for me. Favourite songs: Ai no Melody, Tatta Hitotsu no Omoi, I believe ~umi no soko kara~, The Power of Smile, and Yume ga Chikara. Thank you to Cerbi for introducing her to me XD A person who visits this blog regularly, something which I never expected to happen <3
- Lia; the best of I’ve sound, in my opinion. She has a really lovely voice. If ayaka is the earthly and emotional, Lia is the otherworldly and perfect. I don’t know if she writes her songs though. even if she doesn’t, that’s okay. Favourite songs: Tori no Shi, Farewell Song and Doll. I don’t know that many of her songs, but the ones i know are lovely and she always sounds amazing <3 I really need some better adjectives.
There are more. Many more. However, I still dislike KOTOKO’s voice. Did anyone other than me think that BLAZE was an unpleasant and whiny song? It pains me to listen to it.
I’ve heard that Myco had a part in an anime in 2004, but ya, I haven’t really heard much about her in a while.
Re:KOTOKO
Her songs are alright… but what REALLY catches my attention about her is that she has stage presence. Her Lives are something else, and the best thing is, her singing is consistant between her recordings and her lives.
When she’s on-stage singing, you can really feel it. It’s hard to put in words, but if you’ve been at a concert where you just can’t seem to forget it, then you know what I mean when I say KOTOKO has stage presence.
And… no, I just stumbled upon this blog when I was searching for recent sightings of Myco, and figured I’d mention it since I saw two singers I liked. Though I wonder if Yoko Kanno has been forgotten already…
Hey there,
I luv ur site, its got this really nice soothing feeling about it,I was looking for Saiunkoku Monogatari songs and came upon this page. I thought your reviews of the Saiunkoku songs were almost similar to what I’d thought of the songs myself….and hey,Maaya is my fav singer too!!!!!!! Cheers!!!!!!!!
Mikuni Shinokawa was 1 of my early fav singers too…really luv her Fullmetal Panic soundtrack…as a matter of fact, none of the songs I heard from her or from Maaya have ever disappointed me,they’re all lovely anime songs that are appropriate for the theme its suppose to be under. Have you seen Wolf’s Rain? Tell Me What The Rain Knows was really good,I just felt like crying when she sang it in the anime. It was perfectly in tune with the story. I guess Ayaka Hirahara and Tainaka Sachi are becoming firm favourites with me now soley because of the Saiunkoku songs….hehe I’m actually listening to them now.
I heard this radio broadcast of Maaya before and she was playing the guitar ‘live’ at the studio…..her voice was good. Yoko Kanno is pretty good too, have you heard the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack? Its very high-tech and yet, strikes a chord with me.
Anyway have fun!!!!!!
Concerning KOTOKO… I’ve never been to any of her lives, but I’ve heard quite a lot of her songs, and I think her problem might be the fact that she mostly sings sugary JPop, and not much more. I know this might be the fault of the company she’s in (I’ve Sound mostly supplies music to erogames, after all), but honestly, some variation wouldn’t hurt. She proved she can sing both acoustic ballads with Free Angels and pop-rock in Lament, so why not go further that way?
Very nice site – neat and simple, without being heavy on non-essential items. As for the music, I can’t honestly comment in a unbiased way, having not listened to too many. Besides, it falls in the purview of the other browsers of this site. Indeed, I peruse this site for the reviews, but there is something striking about its simplicity that draws me back, unlike countless other sites.
Once again, very tastefully done (Sadish should be congratulated).
I am stealing some songs for the anime BBQ event.
Thanks for a list of great suggestions, songhunter. <333
I love anime as well, but i usually find a song i really like and then can’t figure out the title or even artist of the song and so i cant find it. i am so very frustrated. Google is no help. i get all this crap i don’t want, minus finding this site however. Well that pure fateful awesomeness. anyway…i was wondering if you could help since ur name is SongHunter and you have reviewed so many songs….? i would appreciate it very much. feel free to email me a reply to this message or anytime. i am in need of assistance! i can give you the lyrics, which would help, im sure. here’s the one i am currently looking for: its the ending theme song for Bokura Ga Ita episode 15 part 3. the song begins at 3:59. I really like it. and the chorus goes something like, “We keep running, and it seems like we’ll make it but we dont, just like that” and its talking about rain and such. so if you could help me, that would be great. I also have a blogger account, so that would work too. uhm….i think thats it. anyway, i really like your site, it has been helpful.
