Performed by: Ayaka Hirahara
Lyrics: ??
Composer: ??
Arrangement: YANAGIMAN
Relation to anime: used as opening song to Saiunkoku Monogatari
The lyrics can be found here.
..
The song opens with a sort of flute-like synthesizer tinkling a B major arpeggio, while beneath it the same synthesizer plays chords. It’s really a gradual tinkling, but is so soft at the start that the voice – and other backing – enters not long after it is actually audible.
hajimari no kaze yo todoke MESSE-JI
“itsu demo anata wo shinjite iru kara”
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
“Because I will always believe in you”
Ayaka’s voice has a slightly breathy quality to it. Other than this, her style of singing seems to be quite similar to that of Kanon’s, except that as we see later, her range seems to be somewhat lower, in that she goes for the lower notes as opposed to Kanon’s..er, piercing ones.
This song is so soothing. Listening to the chorus, with its comfortable chord progressions and pretty melody line, I feel as though everything will be all right. Although, the lyrics are a bit strange, i wouldn’t say they were soothing. I actually thought the name of this song meant “the start of the wind” which bears a surprising resemblance to Kanon’s song, Brand New Breeze. however, it turns out that it’s actually “wind of beginning”. How very…Wheel of Time-esque. I also don’t really understand those quotation marks…they appear later, too, at seemingly random moments. The first one is obviously a message. but what kind of person gives a message to someone saying, “Because I will always believe in you”?? Actually, I think that this is only the first part of a longer chorus. Still, it’s slightly confusing.
Instrumental interlude. This is actually my favourite part of the whole song, this interlude. I think it comes up again later. It’s done by some japanese instrument that sounds a lot like a chinese erhu. Actually, I saw one in Manifest, but I forgot what it’s called. Anyway, it’s done by some stringed instrument with three (or four?) strings, which means that there’s a lot of sliding around on the notes.
[edit] shuurei plays the erhu in the anime actually so i think that this instrument probably actually is an erhu. can’t be sure though. same for the end. [/edit]
ano toki yume ni mite ita sekai ni tatte iru noni
miwatasu keshiki ni ashi wo sukoshi sukumase
dakedo ushiro furimukanaide aruite yuku koto kimeta kara
miageta sora nanairo no niji anata mo mite’masu ka?
Though I am now standing in the world that I once saw in a dream
As I look out at the scenery my legs tremble slightly
But I won’t look back, because I decided to keep moving forward
The seven colored rainbow I see in the sky, I wonder if you can see it too
The start of this verse has a strange, not-quite melody, where the singer sort of just stays around the same (low) notes and tries to get all the words out without making a mistake. There’s no real drive to this section, and you can’t really do anything much with it…although, I guess this song is not that emotional. It’s very peaceful and ..windy.
The second half of the verse is better. There’s that sense that something is going to happen, although it feels like that something will be minor, not major. I am always slightly surprised when the chorus comes around and it turns out to be major.
It’s my guess that the lyrics relate to the anime in some way, but I haven’t seen Saiunkoku Monogatari, so I wouldn’t know. They sound quite exciting. “…I am now standing in the world that I once saw in a dream” Sounds like a shaman.
hajimari no kaze yo todoke MESSE-JI
yume ni kakedashita senaka mimamoru kara
maiagaru kaze yo omoi wo tsutaete
“itsu demo anata wo shinjite iru kara”
habatake mirai e
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
Because I’ll be watching your back as you run after your dream
Wandering wind, carry these feelings
Because I will always believe in you
For all of the future
I like the backing in this too. I don’t really have much to say about the chorus, it’s as pretty as it ever was. There’s a brief interlude of that synthesiser playing the backing chords over and over. Interestingly, this rhythm is repeated four times, but in the last time it is played differently. I wonder if it’s a cue for the singer to start singing?
tatoeba, taisetsu na hito wo mune ni omou toki wa
daremo ga kitto yasashii kao wo shiteru hazu
michi wa toki ni hateshinakutemo akiramezu ni yuku yo
If someone is thinking about the person they hold dear
No matter who they are they will have a kind look on their face
The path through time is endless, keeping going without giving up
This verse is one line shorter than the first verse, but it still works. I’m really quite impressed with her range, not many singers dare to sing that low…unless they’re men.
hajimari no kaze yo todoke MESSE-JI
haruka na tabiji no sono saki de matteru
maiagaru kaze yo unmei mo koete
negai wa todoku to shinjirareru kara
itsuka mata aeta nara ano egao misete
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
I’ll be waiting for you at the end of your long journey
Wandering wind surpass your destiny
Because I believe that my feelings will get through to you
Someday, when we meet again, show me your smile
Why is it that so many songs are love songs, even if they seem to be about something else? as i said, this song really makes me feel comforted. Actually, the lyrics are also comforting (take back what i said before). Even if they sound somewhat like there are just random sayings placed in there to sound good – quote, “surpass your destiny”, “the path through time is endless”, etc.
The lovely interlude again! It’s so pretty.
hajimari no kaze yo todoke MESSE-JI
haruka na tabiji no sono saki de matteru
maiagaru kaze yo unmei mo koete
negai wa todoku to shinjirareru kara
osoreru mono nado nai “anata ga iru kara”
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
I’ll be waiting for you at the end of your long journey
Wandering wind surpass your destiny
Because I believe that my feelings will get through to you
There is nothing to fear, because you exist
The chorus just doesn’t seem to fit wherever it’s placed..it’s so complete within itself. i’m always surprised whenever it comes about, particularly just after the interlude.
Those last lines are so comforting. “There is nothing to fear, because you exist.”
there’s another interlude here; an ending really. It’s that japanese instrument and piano. It’s pretty, but I think the ending’s a bit flimsy. It’s just a short cadence with both instruments fading off rather quickly. It could have ended better, I think.
Wow!
I’m so happy to found this translation!!!
Thank you!!!
That is not a japanese instrument.
If you hv watched the anime, that is the instrument that shurei plays: the chinese instrument erhu.
ohh, now that i think of it, you’re right. i thought it might be the shamisen because, when i went to an anime convention, there was a person playing the shamisen (sp?) there and i went over to her and asked her if it was an erhu, and she said no, it’s a s-thing (however you spell it). so i guess i just assumed that it was an s-thing, even though i remember now shuurei playing the erhu.
Could anyone please give me url to download this song.I could not download anywhere except to here it online. It’s better if I can have .mp3 file.I tried to survey at the shop at my place, and could not find it yet.
-crush on Shi Ryuuki
follow the link to the lyrics – up there, where it says “The lyrics can be found here”, and then download it from gendou. if you don’t have an account there, it’s really easy to make one and it’s free too. alternatively go to http://www.gendou.com and just search for it.
Where can I download this song? Please -email me. I really love this song!
I recently discovered the anime where I first heard this song
it moves me beyond words … and I don’t have a clear explaination for that fact.
Been playing the song over and over again, every time Ayaka sings the words ‘hajimari no kaze” and the song speeds up again … chills go through my spine … and the slow intermezzo inbetween … just by closing your eyes you can pretend to be somewhere else.
great site btw, it’s nice to have a translation aswell as some extra comment.
greetz
First of all I have to say that this is one of my Favorite animes!
I’ve watched the series and I can tell you that the song IS about the story.
In the Anime you have 2 guys that fall for Shuurei, however she is more interested in making her land peacefull rather than being romantically involved with either one of them.
I don’t wanna spoil anything so i’ll leave it at that.
Thats why they say: “I’ll be waiting for you at the end of your long journey”. that journey refers to her becoming acepted as a court ‘aproved’ official who will work for the country (eventhough she’s a woman).
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
“Because I will always believe in you”
This line is oriented towards Shurei from the guy who really LOVES her. There is a time in the series where she becomes distant from him since she has to work for her country (on her own free will). Thats why the ‘wind has to Deliver the message’. Since he loves her so much he is confidant she will always do the right thing therfore ‘he always believes in her’.
Wow I got really motivated… that just shows hom much I like this anime and this Song!
I love this song a lot! Now that i understand it, I feel even closer to the song. Thanks a lot for the tranlation. Feel really touched by the song somehow! 😀
thanks for the translation. now i feel that i understand the show and the song better.
I’m a saiunkoku monogatari fan too~~ =)
thanks for Sara Justiniano for the explanation!
I didn’t realise “message to be delivered” refers to Ryuuki’s message of love~!
I’m so proud of Shuurei~!!!
such a good example for how people should live their lives =)
I love anime that advocates morals.. (e.g. fruits basket…)
Does anybody have recommendations for similar anime?
(besides fushigi yuugi?)
Can anyone come out with the guitar chords? Would appreciate it. Doing to perform the song the coming december.
She must use an Erhu since a Koto is a plucking instrument…I think. I imagine it will be very difficult to get guitar cords because of the sliiiiiiiiiiding quality of the Erhu. Good luck!
This song’s one of my favourite! When she sings the chorus, my heart swings with it.
Hm, I believe that this song represents the relationship between Ryuuki and Shuurei (as stated before) but it’s like a one sided love. I haven’t quite finished the series but I’m sure Shuurei will return to Ryuuki and love him. I turn I hope my beloved fave character Seian will find someone more like him to care for.
This anime is very reminiscent of Fruits Basket. The fickle pushover (Tohru Honda, Shuurei Kou), the calm composed guardian (Yuki Sohma, Seian Shi) the childish brother (Kyou Sohma, Ryuuki Shi) this is where the roles deviate a bit. Between Yuki and Kyou it’s sort of a hate between Seian and Ryuuki its a deep brotherly love. But where it stays consistent is Tohru and Shuurei both don’t know what hate is and don’t understand how people could dislike them. (More Tohru that Shuurei.) Excuse my senseless babbling and understand that I like these animes a lot it’s just that I’m a rather ‘tuf’ critic ^^
(One otehr thing, you have to agree that Kouyuu is a little like Kyou and Shuuei is Shigure’s type ^^)
wow… what a great interpretation… originally all i love about this song is the melody… but now i come to realize that its lyrics are so meaningful… i imagined ryuuki… waiting for shurei as she slowly conquers her dream. i piy him and im also inspired by him… his love is patient
bwahahahahahahaha
I was watching Saiunkoku, and realized that there’s an extra verse in the OP!
hajimari no kaze yo todoke MESSE-JI
yume ni kakedashita senaka mimamoru kara
maiagaru kaze yo HI NO HIKARI MATOI
JIYUU NO TSUBASA DE TSUYOKU TSUYOKU DATOU
Has the version with this part been released, besides just in the TV size?
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
Because I will always believe in you
Though I am now standing in the world that I once saw in a dream
As I look out at the scenery my legs tremble slightly
But I won’t look back, because I decided to keep moving forward
The seven colored rainbow I see in the sky, I wonder if you can see it too
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
Because I’ll be watching your back as you run after your dream
Wandering wind, carry these feelings
Because I will always believe in you
For all of the future
If someone is thinking about the person they hold dear
No matter who they are they will have a kind look on their face
The path through time is endless, keeping going without giving up
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
I’ll be waiting for you at the end of your long journey
Wandering wind surpass your destiny
Because I believe that my feelings will get through to you
Someday, when we meet again, show me your smile
Wind of beginning, deliver this message
I’ll be waiting for you at the end of your long journey
Wandering wind surpass your destiny
Because I believe that my feelings will get through to you
There is nothing to fear, because you exist
hey, I’m looking for nutes of this song. Ilove it so much and I try to play it with my violin. I would be very thankful if somebody could help me! 😦
Jay fire try 12 kingdoms, i love that anime, its very similar to saiukoku monogatari in style and setting though more fast paced and fantastical.
q bueno que puedan tener la manera traducida de la cancion es batante gratificante para aquellos q no entienden el japones yo apenas estoy aprendiendo pero q tengan estas traducciones es bueno
your essay is very interesting and gives so much information and does so much for understanding the whole song. i found the song very poignant and your translation makes it even more meaningful. thank you ^.^
I was hoping you could send me the translated version of Kimi Iro Omoi from Akazukin Cha cha… It’s hard to find online (Translation)
michi wa toki ni hateshinakutemo akiramezu ni yuku yo
“toki ni” here doesn’t refer to time itself. It means “sometimes”.
So a more appropriate translation would be: “Although the way may be endless at times, I’ll keep going and never give up.”
Nice translation and analysis. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the analysis of this song. Also, to the commenters, it was nice to hear your interpretations as well.
When I first heard the song, I didn’t realize just what others saw in it beside the fact that it was a ‘good song’. Over time, I have fallen in love with it myself. It does have a very airy and comforting tone, like everything will be alright. ^^
Thanks again. Glad that I found this. ❤
This is the best anime song i ever heard, and is the only anime where i wouldn’t fast forward and skip the opening theme. This song really lightens me up and when i first heard this song i fall in love with it!
does anybody know if there was ever a karaoke/instrumental version made to this song? i was sure there was but i can’t seem to find any info about it anywhere. did they ever released a Saiunkoku Monogatari OP single? I thought they did.
hm that’s strange, i have no idea. usually it would be on gendou, but it’s not there either. sorry, i can’t really help you. you can try make one though using audacity.
Really nice job with your post on this song!
It’s nice to visit a blog that is so deeply appreciative of music. =)
You can find love songs anywhere and in so many ways but how often can you find a song this Loving? Or meaningful?
Now yo understand the lyrics more, I see the relation to Saiunkoku Monogatari ….
yup this song related to the anime..it been used for opening first season n second season of Saiunkoku Monogatari.
i saw the lyrics of hajimari no kaze at gendou’s anime music
SARA JUSTINIANO!! Can you please tell me more about the anime? I heard the song “Hajimari no Kaze” and just loved it. Now that I know where it came from I want to know the whole story. Most importantly, I want to know the two guys that fell for her. I liked your example so that is why I am asking you 🙂

After your facial you will have a shellac nails and toes treatment.
The pampering session is finished off with a top coat is
applied first of all, followed by two layers of color,
and top coat. The only downside is that after each coat you have to place your hands under a
UV lamp, and I thought I would share it with you! Shellac Nails should last
for about two weeks, which for the day was home to Ted Baker for LFW.
